Weekend report.
Friday AM storm blew through. Wind shifted from SE to W. Short Blitz at Georgica. Nothing for me at Atlantic or Napeague. Friday PM winds calmed and there was steady action along Maidstone , Main Beach, and Georgica. No blitzes but quiet bite - all sand eels- diamond jig/green tube, slow retrieve, bass in very close. Short cast works best. Very soft pick ups by the fish. Sometimes can't even feel the hit.
This bite held up all day Saturday with shorts and many keepers taken, in the teens. Continued Sunday morning.
Need patience and slow retrieve. Many expect blitz but fish are spread out, not in one spot. So they see the bent rods, cast a few times and leave. I stayed in one spot and caught 14 on Friday, 10 on Saturday (1 - 17lber), and 10 on Sunday morning including 2 keepers. Find little outflows and cuts. Fish are waiting.
I learned a lot about sand eels, bass and reading the beach. Great weekend. Unusual fall run. Very different fishing.
